Ruby's Story

Born in 2004, with bright ginger hair, Ruby became the beating heart of our family. Although she was born with severe quadriplegic cerebral palsy which resulted in extreme physical limitations, she had a fierce passion for life and tackled every challenge she faced with dignity and determination. From a young age, she loved being immersed in anything creative, she loved arts and crafts and cooking. Her other passion was chocolate!

Ruby was non-verbal but her eyes and expressions could speak a thousand words. Her communication began with home-made, written signs which she would look at, but as she grew older, she began to use an Eye-Gaze computer which gave her the ability to verbalise her thoughts through the power of her eyes. Her computer allowed her cheeky, charming and hilarious personality to emerge and made everyone fall in love with her that little bit more.

Tragically, after a short illness, Ruby passed away on 28th January 2020 at age 15. This has left a gaping hole in all of our lives that will never be filled. Losing Ruby at such a young age has reinforced the importance of living life to the fullest and not taking anything for granted. She touched so many hearts and inspired so many people which gives us the comfort of knowing her legacy will live on forever.
