What can I say other than how immensely proud I am of these super Ladies and one amazing Gentleman. Their commitment to doing this marathon has been phenomenal and with just under 2 weeks left, it’s clear to see their excitement building and most importantly, their belief in knowing full well that the hardest work is done and they can really start to look forward to the big day.
This whole training business has been intense and the girls and Merce have put themselves through so much over the past few months, it’s definitely been tough for them. I can’t pretend it’s been too bad for me being left on my own on those long run Sundays as it has given me plenty of time to nip off to the golf course, even if it has been through the winter so not ideal conditions …. sorry I know this is about running not golf !
Chickenshed played such an important part in both our daughters lives and whilst some parents stand on the touch line cheering on their kids, our experience was rather different but when the Chickenshed shows came around, that was our cup final and many a tear was ‘shed’ during those performances. The number of donations so far has been fantastic to see and if you haven’t already donated, please do so as they are a small charity and every penny will be greatly received.
From a supporters point of view the pressure is only just starting to crank up. The route planning and map reading to decide the best vantage points is in progress and hopefully we will get to see their smiles/grimaces along the route a fair few times. The bit I’m looking forward to most….. well that would have to be the pub afterwards!
What a day it promises to be. We don’t quite know the forecast yet but whatever the London weather has in store, we know for sure it’s going to be a great day. We do know that there will be a Chickenshed cheer station at mile 18 (near to Canary Wharf station) and the girls are looking forward to the Tracksmith station around mile 24. As many familiar faces that they see during the race the better, but we all know that the London crowd are amazing and I’m sure they’ll be cheering them to the finish, along with our beautiful girl in heaven who will also be on our minds throughout, as she is every day
Derren x
